Component Analytics Anonymization – Components Approach benefits & drawbacks

Yesterday, I showed you how to setup anonymization using a components approach.

There are benefits and drawbacks to this approach that you have to consider.

Benefits:

  • It’s easy to set up if you have few components with business logic inside.
  • Having a whitelist of safe components makes it easier to make sure no PII* slips through. You review any new component before adding it to the whitelist

Drawbacks:

  • Reporting all interactions inside as sensitive makes it unclear what the customer did.
  • A component that contains many interactions, of which only a few have PII in them, will have all interactions reported as sensitive.
  • Components in the whitelist need to be closely monitored. Any component updates lead to having to check it again for interactions that contain PII.

Tomorrow we’ll go through another approach to anonymization.
