How to set a KPI target if there’s no history

Yesterday, I wrote about how to select a team KPI target.

Two of the suggestions depended on having a history.

Either analytics history or an experienced team.

If it’s a new product, you may not have access to any of these.

In this case, I would recommend looking at the metric competitors use to start out.

If you can’t gather anything on the subject, just look through a list of the most common metrics and choose one.

Whatever approach you choose, schedule a date to come back and reevaluate the target.

The date should be 3 to 6 months after launch, depending on the amount of users using the product.
