Aligning KPIs with company goals

Selecting KPI to set as a team goal is tricky.

You want a KPI that gives the team freedom to experiment.

But at the same time it actually pushes the company forward.

Here are some ways to select an important KPI:

1. History: Look through you analytics for the past year, what KPIs gave the best results in correlation to company goals.
2. Sector: What does your competitors consider is the most important KPIs?
3. Ask the team: If the team has experience in the domain, ask them to see what they think is important. You can test their hypothesis against the data you currently have.

Over time, you will have more data to count on and experienced team members.

Asking and enabling experimentation in the team allows them to take ownership.
