Differences between Modules and Layout Components

In the past, I have referred to Layout Components in places I from now on will refer to Modules.

I wanted to write about the differences between these two as I currently see them.

The differences are:

• A Layout Component is named depending on how it lays out the content inside. Modules are named after the functionality they provide.
• A Module can have many Layout Components inside.
• Modules are easier to understand for non-technical employees due to being often tied to the business.
• A page has a lot of Layout Components but usually only few repeating Modules.

The functionality on the site ties to the Modules on it. If a site is being continually developed, new Modules are being created.

Module names can be used as a shared language in the organization to describe the functionality on the site.

Making it easier for analysts to produce reports that the rest of the organization understands.
