Report notes

As analysts, you have a good idea of what the numbers may mean and what is significant.

From time to time, it can be useful to add notes to your reports.

There are three types of notes of interest:

  • Timeline notes: Notes that you put on the timeline to indicate that something special is happening. For example the start of a marketing campaign or a sale.
  • Business notes: Explaining what the numbers may indicate for the business, how it helps us achieve our goals.
  • Explanatory notes: Notes explaining what the values are. This is more technically focused such as what the metric is measuring, how it is measured.

Notes help the company share an understanding with the analysts.

They can also be a reminder to how the company is in track with their goals.

You don’t need notes on every weekly report, but analysts should make sure to include them from time to time.

Notes also reduce the need for analytics presentations to explain the numbers and what they may mean.

Creating a scalable insight infrastructure in the company.
